Prato, July 10, 2025 – Paolo Toccafondi has paid €100,000 to seal the deal that should culminate in the sale of AC Prato . From the offices of the notary firm Associato D'Ambrosi e Casale, which the former blue-and-white owner relied on, important news regarding the future of the club has emerged today. This begins with Stefano Commini 's signature on the preliminary agreement for the sale of the club to a consortium of local entrepreneurs, who, however, still need to be identified. And watch out, because time is running out: one of the conditions for the deal to be concluded successfully is that €1 million be raised by July 18, provided by investors from the city.
The second condition will come into play once the one million mark is reached, with Commini being obligated to pay the €220,000 due to registered players for the 2024/25 season, thus completing Prato's registration in Serie D. "The application for registration with the LND had to be submitted electronically by today, and Commini did so. However, without the €220,000 payment, Co.Vi.So.D. will issue a negative assessment. Toccafondi noted that there will then be until July 21st to appeal, attaching the transfers made to the players." Toccafondi sent a clear message to local businessmen. "I hope someone else will follow me: now we'll see if the city is truly 'willing.' And for the future, I have no pretensions of a role. If, once the club and its governance are finalized, other investors ask me to leave, I will do so without hesitation. I have neither the interest nor the time to manage Prato."
During the press conference, the former president of the wool workers also recounted the steps that led him to intervene personally. "I had been in contact with Giovanni Nigro when the possibility of a local consortium taking over the club arose. Then, once the deal fell through, I contacted him again, because I didn't want his work to go to waste. I called Commini, who wasn't interested in registering the team in Serie D, and with Rodolfo Fregoli, we analyzed Prato's accounts: the debt amounts to €800,000, of which Commini will pay approximately €200,000, and the rest can be paid in instalments. It's not a catastrophic situation, but some other local entrepreneur needs to come up with the money."
